Dreamt I was positioned about 6 feet away from an outdoor umbrella stand. I was standing. The umbrellas were different sizes. They were robust male, professional super sturdy pristine and brand new, the colours were bright and dark shades of tartan. One stood out, it wasn’t tartan it was union jack patterned in traditional colours and then some, with a sort of twist. I thought from my six-foot distance i might purchase that one. It was extra long, longer than the biggest I’ve ever seen. It’s size didn’t appear incongruous though. And I never owned a really good quality umbrella (had the lend of one, yes). I think there were 2 or three others like this in size. There was three-different sizes overall. I was in conversation with a couple of other people whilst thinking about & looking (from the 6 foot distance) at the umbrellas.
My dream was me and my family on a freeway traveling to a destination to which I knew nothing of and we where going higher as we switched freeway direction. As I looked out the window, I see hundreds to thousands of clear umbrellas flying over the freeways and the city.

My dream was my deceased ex-husband showed up behind me and said: here, you’re going to need this. He handed me a black umbrella. I didn’t pay any mind to it because I was so surprised to see him. My dream is that I was sharing an umbrella with my younger brother. A couple of comments before we get into the actual interpretation of this dream:
1. Most of our dreams are not meant to be taken literally. This is one of those dreams.
2. When I interpret a dream, I often use the theories of Carl Jung (AKA Analytical Psychology).
3. Many of our dreams will contain mythological or religious images. This is especially true for the more developed dreamer.
4. The sequence of events is often important in a dream.
And now for the dream:
1. The dreamer in the dream represents her ego. In Analytical Psychology, the ego is the center of the consciousness.
2. Your school is the school that we all attend. It is the ‘school of life’. The dream seems to have a positive meaning. Therefore, the dreamer has learned her lessons well.
3. The guy in this dream is probably a symbol of the dreamer’s animus. The animus is an archetype from the collective unconscious. The animus is always male and is only found in the dreams of women. Over the process of numerous dreams, the animus has the potential of going through four stages of development:
a. At the first stage, he is the physical man. He might be a brute or perhaps a hero-type such as Superman or The Wolverine. At this stage, a more negative animus might be some sort of violent brute.
b. At the next stage, he is either a romantic figure or the man of action. He might appear as a boyfriend, or perhaps as a hunter or an explorer.
c. “In the third phase, the animus becomes the ‘word,’ often appearing as a professor or clergyman [or perhaps a politician or someone similar].”
d. At the fourth and final stage, he is “the wise guide to spiritual truth….” Jung gave Ghandi as an example of the animus at this stage of development.
4. The appearance of the dream man can often help us to understand his stage of development. For example, at the boyfriend stage, he might first appear as a handsome young man with dark hair. But a somewhat more developed animus, at this stage, might have blond hair and blue eyes.
5. Sometimes a dream man will appear as a mythological-type being. For example, if the female dreamer has a Celtic, Germanic or Nordic background, he might appear as Loki, Odin etc.
6. It is raining in the dream. Although rain can symbolize many different things, I suspect that it has something to do with the dreamer’s emotions – it might be sadness, depression, anger or such.
7. The dream man “shields [the dreamer] … from the rain with a black umbrella….” Thus, the man is protecting the dreamer from the rain.
8. Although black can have a negative meaning is a dream, I usually interpret it in a more positive way. In this dream, the color black could have a few possible positive meanings:
a. The black color might represent the death of the “old” dreamer. Thus, the dreamer is becoming a new person. In an extreme case, it is the death of the ego which is associated with shamanism.
b. But rather being a symbol of the death of the ego, black may represent the death of the old animus and, thus, the birth of the new/current animus.
c. And lastly, the black could represent the lower world of the unconscious – perhaps even the collective unconscious. Virtually any journey to this realm is a good sign. As Jung wrote, “One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”

I dreamed about a guy…it was so darn cliche but i can still recall it…it was at my school before it was raining heavy and then i had no umbrella out of no where a guy comes up behind me and shields me from the rain with a black umbrella…as we walked through the rain i just carefully glanced at him as if it was real. He was a good looking guy but I don’t know who he is…can you help me…what could this dream possibly mean?
